Protecting Children from "The Com": Understanding the Threat
I wrote an article the other day about “764” and the risks associated with that online community of depraved individuals and the threat they pose to all young children. Today, Sky News broke a story about “The Com” (Short for Community).
I thought it worthwhile bringing this to the attention of my subscribers, in particular though any of you with young daughters, this group targets girls in the age range of 11-15 but I would suggest that girls of any age are at risk.
It is worth taking 15 minutes to watch the above video as it contains great information and advice. Use that information to discuss with your child about this particular threat and what they should look out for. My usual advice about open and honest communication is paramount here because you are going to be arming them with the ability to recognise a threat themselves, and you will be letting them know that they can come to you with any concerns without fear of judgment.
Believe me when I say that this can happen to your child, it happens to many children daily, do not stick your head in the sand and pretend it will just pass you by as the last thing you want or need is for your child to become imagery on the screen of a digital forensic analyst like me, preparing for the prosecution of one of these absolute bastards.
I try not to let my emotions come into the things I write normally, but in recent days, I have seen so many news articles about these threats, and it has triggered me quite a lot. I talk to my therapist regularly, It took me a long time to be able to do that because I don’t want to harm people with the things that live in my brain connected to the imagery that I used to analyse that caused my C-PTSD. It is a major reason why I don’t go into minute detail in my writing but sometimes I do get tempted, just to shock parents into realising what their child could be at risk of being subjected to. Instead, I will ask you to use your imagination to think of the most depraved thing you have ever heard of, but then multiply that by 5 and then imagine the effect that would have on your child.
These are the type of things that members of 764 and the Com see as sport, they try to one up each other by getting their victims to go to the next level of depravity, children are a pawn in their game and they don’t give a shit that your child will spend the rest of their lives trying to deal with what has happened and infact if they get your child to take their own lives that is like winning the lottery to them.
Apologies if this has seemed excessive or shocking but it is where I am currently at and I want to give your child the best chance of not becoming a victim to these groups of sub human scum that are inhabiting the darkest corners of the internet.
